KNOB TAILED GECKO
Nephrurus asper
Description:
Large sized Nephrurus (smaller than Nephrurus Amyae) with
extremely short tail, large head and a robust body covered
with clusters of spinose conical tubercles. Ground colour
pale brown, greyish brown to black, with a series of narrow
irregular blackish crossbands, alternating with irregular
transverse rows of white spots. Ventral surface is white.
SVL 100 mm.
Distribution:
Only found in Queensland. Two colour forms occur, a narrow
banded form in the southern part of the range and a board
banded form on Cape York
Peninsula.
Habitat:
Favours rocky habitats, where it usually lives in a burrow
beneath large boulders or well embedded rocks.
