Pernatty
Knob Tailed Gecko
Nephrurus deleani
Description:
Medium sized Nephrurus with small slender tail. Pale brown
or purplish brown above with a series of narrow blackish streaks
or bars forming reticulations on the head and sometimes a
series of V-shaped bars on the body. Narrow white vertebral
line (occasionally broken) may extend from base of head to
tail. Ventral surfaces white. SVL 90mm.
Distribution:
Restricted to areas immediate north and west of Pernatty Lagoon
near Woomera, South Australia. Probably the rarest among all
the Nephrurus because of the limited nature of its distribution.
Reports suggest pressure from stock grazing may seriously
impact on this species.
Habitat:
On vegetated sand dunes with fine and densely packed sand.
Shelters in burrows at lines of low vegetation.
