SMOOTH
KNOB TAILED GECKO
Nephrurus laevissimus
Description:
The smallest Nephrurus with small slender tail. Ground colour
from pink to pinkish grey, body usually patterned with numerous
small whitish spots. Three dark brown (sometimes broken) lines
present on head and forebody. Ventral surfaces white. SVL
70mm. Distinguished from Nephrurus Levis in possessing much
more slender tail and lacking lateral tubercles.
Distribution:
South-eastern WA, extending into north-western SA and southern
parts of the NT.
Habitat:
Occurs on crests and slopes of red and yellow desert sand
ridges vegetated with hummock grasses. Shelters in burrows
excavated at bases of the grasses.
