KNOB TAILED GECKO
Nephrurus stellatus
Description:
Moderately small Nephrurus with small slender tail. Ground
colour from pale yellowish brown, pinkish brown to rich reddish
or purplish brown, marked with 3 narrow white transverse lines.
Numerous prominent white to yellowish spots scattering on
its dorsal surface.
Distribution:
Consists of two populations, one in the south of Western Australia,
the other in southern South Australia (Eyre Peninsula). These
two are isolated by thousands of kilometers of the desolate
Nullarbor Plain.
Habitat:
Occurs on yellow to pinkish sand plains and sand ridges vegetated
with Mallee/ Triodia associations and heathlands. Shelters
in burrows at bases of shrubs or hummock grasses.
