KNOB TAILED GECKO
Nephrurus wheeleri cinctus
Description:
Moderate to large Nephrurus with long broad depressed tail.
Ground colour from pinkish brown to rich reddish brown, prominently
marked with 5 broad dark brown bands on body and tail. Ventral
surfaces pale pinkish brown to white. SVL 90mm.
Distribution:
Occurs in the Fortescue River catchment of the Pilbara district,Western
Australia.
Habitat:
Warm temperature rocky hills, mesas and slopes, also open
stony ground, usually with Triodia hummock grasses or other
squat, shady bushes. Shelters in disused burrows and beneath
rocks. Forages in open spaces between vegetation at night.
